J reached out to me after one of their friends booked an experience with me (a pretty common occurrence). They shared that as an agender human they struggle to feel comfortable in their body, and oftentimes felt dysphoric about their body. During our consultation, J shared a great deal about their relationship with their body throughout their life, along with how they seek to relate and feel comfortable in their body at this stage in their life. J’s goals were to highlight all aspects of who they are within their shoot, including feminine and androgynous energy. Their goal was to see their body as it is, particularly in photos, and feel good about it. The experience was full of laughter, high fives and good jams. Upon receiving their album, Jay shared this with me:

“Every time I feel bad about myself, I pull out the album and remind myself how much of a badass I am and it always makes me feel strong and beautiful even on days when I don’t think I am.”

Aspects of both J’s past and present were included in their shoot, including the experience of binding. Shoots like this, wherein an array of exploration occurs both before and during the shoot, are some of the more humbling of my career. I am forever appreciative to those of you that open and share your stories with me.
